I encourage everyone into gardening to look at when they offer classes in your parish. Learned a lot and the resources I have at my feet now are invaluable. You have to do 40 volunteer hours a year, but it’s for a good cause. I may try to get a local elementary school in my neighborhood to start a gardening program for the students so they can learn about gardening and crops.

Ha fixed it. Actually the group was diverse. A few there had aspirations of starting organic veggie companies. Others are retired and want to give back. A few wanted to learn about proper lawn care and there were some hippies there too. Quite a lot of diversity.

ETA: Cost $250 for the course materials. The EBR parish MG program started about a week ago, Aug 1 - Oct 10, Tues and Thurs 9-noon at Burden. Held once a year. Usually held in late spring-summer but a family emergency of the primary instructor necessitated it be moved back this year. When I took it 2011 there was an online version of taped lectures and we met Sat mornings to review that week’s materials and Q&A. More accommodating for working folks.

Different parishes set different dates/times for their course. You could also check for West Baton Rouge or Ascension Parish MG courses to see if their dates and times are more accommodating.
