Built in cabinet removal/alteration

Anyone ever done this or have any tips/links/videos to share on the subject? I don't have much experience with cabinetry/woodworking but seems like a job I can do myself.
I have a built in section of floor to ceiling cabinetry in my office that I would like to remove a section of in order to slide my gun safe in to that new opening.
This is not my house just a rough example of the type of cabinets I'm talking about, it's the full length part on the left.
On mine the bottom set of doors actually goes up higher to a few inches higher than the safe so I wouldn't have to worry about cutting doors in half, I could just cut the bottom set of doors off.
I'd like to take out the doors/center section but leave the two main upright sides as the walls around the safe.

What type of save are you thinking? If its a really good/heavy gun safe, the floor on the cabinet would not hold the weight.
you may could remove the floor but it would be hard to get the floor out since it's structural.

quote:Yeah it's a 64 gun safe that weighs 440 lbs empty, so I'll have to remove the bottom of the cabinet as well and put the safe directly on the ground.

Can you provide some pictures of the actual cabinet you want to modify and the safe?

Basically, make it like one of those refrigerator openings with cabinets on top. If you need to order new doors, look at rawdoors.net.
