Bad smell from GE dishwasher

We have a new GE Dishwasher that is about 6 months old. Thing always stinks. There is a twist in "filter" screen in the bottom and when I remove it to clean or rinse it out there is water still in the bottom of the dishwasher when the cycle is complete. I asked the repair guy who was here repairing a Washing machine and he said that it was designed to retain water in the bottom after the cycle is complete
Anyone else have a issue with the smell? Reeks. We have run a few blank cycles through with the cleaner but it really doesnt help
This is a picture I found on the web of the filter set up. Thats not mine and our filter looks brand new. Not a spot of dirt on it

100% normal to have water in that section. These newer types of machine have this filter you must clean out.

Does your drain line run up to the bottom of the countertop and then down to your disposal drain? If not water will wash into the dishwasher when you use your disposal drain. I would check that first.

Ensure that your drain hose is higher than the drain opening on your disposer or trap.
Otherwise, your waste water from the sink can drain down into your sump.

What I mean is it should look like a peak on a roller coaster.
Up, bendy, down, attach to disposer

My GE has always stunk as well. Had to replace the board and that lasted another 3 months and now dead again. What a dud. Can't wait to replace it.

You might want to take some of the bins out of it. Did you go up from your dishwasher to the top of the cabinet and then straight to the inlet on your disposal. All that flat pipe just seems like a place for bacteria to grow. The pumps on the dishwashers pump it up and you want to go down a little bit into the disposal. And you might want to clean that hose if it has any build up in it. But mostly dishwashers these days just suck

That was all voice to text and I've had a couple of drinks. Full disclosure here.
