Are ERVs worth it?

Bought a 2015 home that is spray foam insulated. I think the builder installed a fresh air damper that was part of the existing hvac work but it was turned off--I'm guessing because this is Florida and the humidity just puts too much stress on the hvac.
Pretty sure it's code to have some sort of fresh air exchange whereas I currently have none. Is ERV the best option? Do I need a whole-house dehumidifier to go along with it too?
I'm mostly concerned with air quality---I want the fresh air exchange but I don't want to harm the existing system or create a problem I currently don't have (ie too much humidity and mold farm in the attic). Feeling kind of overwhelmed with all I've tried to read about lately.
Thoughts? Suggestions?
