Adding a back patio and looking for some input.

So I'm looking at adding a back patio and nothing crazy, but basically: slab, posts, roof, closed in ceiling.
I'm considering doing a gable or hip roof that will come off the back and tied into the existing roof (similar to the pic). Due to the stand off distance requirements, the patio will only be 14' deep.
Input on this part... the previous owners had closed in most of the original back porch that ran from end to end. One side is 21' wide of closed in space and the other is 15' wide of closed in space. That leaves a current open back porch of 21' isn't centered on the back door. So would center your new roof addition or not worry about that and put the 21' existing porch under the new roof? A centered layout would make the patio 14' x 15' or offset for a 14' x 21'.

However big you think you want it, make it bigger. You won’t regret the extra space.
Edit: definitely offset if that’s the bigger option

What program did you use for the drawing? I am doing similar and need to submit plans. Thanks for info.

Google images, LOL. I just did a search and found what my intent would be, so the wife could visualize what I was saying.

You found that image just like that and it's what you want? I need to work on my search game.
Tygermanjohn, that image was taken from a model produced in Sketchup.

Use HomeDesigner Pro. It has a rental option for $60/mo and has a lot of youtube tutorials to get what you want. Very user friendly and automatically generates framing for the project. ITs what I used for my addition.

I searched something along the lines of gable roof addition for patio. But that pic is probably pretty close to my idea, just not centered left and right on existing roof. Looking from the street, over an 8' fence, mine will be offset to one side by like 6'.
