Question about updating my email address

I’m about to update my email address, but noticed that there is a note that says account will become inactive until email address is verified. Will the verification will be sent to my new email address? I no longer have access to my current email, so I want to make sure before I move forward. I lost access to my original screen name because of a similar situation.
