Copy & paste, EXACTLY, the direct link URL that your hosting site provides for the picture into the space provided for the avatar on your profile page. Hit submit. It should work.

Did you copy the direct link, exactly?
Maybe you're not pressing down long enough? I've never pasted a link for a pic with my phone, but I've copied & pasted text from it. Sometimes to paste, I have to press twice to get it to paste, or press longer. Other than that, Idk about putting up an avi with a phone. I'm sure someone here does.
