Can’t open threads or upvote / downvote unless I refresh page first

Google says to clear safari history and website data on my iPhone, buts it’s greyed out / won’t let me. Per Google,
I follow that path and there is no “web content”. When I search for it in settings nothing is found.
It started not opening links on my old iPhone 16. I got a 17 and figured it would stop with a new phone but it hasn’t. Any help? shite is annoying.

I checked all potentially relevant settings on iPhone. Same experience. Appears to be one of the animated banner ads that can die and go to hell
