I know a lot of folks aren’t down with the monthly subscription for the WHOOP, and I get it. However, their data seems to very accurate per reviews and today they have a 25% off deal on extra straps and a yearly membership. So, instead of paying $30/month for a year, you pay $18 (though I think you have to do that up front so instead of $360 for the year, you pay $216 up front).

I’d rather not commit to the year, but you do get 30 days to return it. The Apple Watch is appealing because there’s no monthly subscription (unless you put it on your cellular plan) and you can change the aesthetics as often as you want. But I really like wearing “nice” automatic watches and have a few I change out, so if I get an Apple Watch, I’d either have to give up wearing my “nice” watches or wear the Apple Watch on my right hand and my regular ones on my left. I usually don’t much care what people think, but a watch on each wrist seems like a douchiest bridge too far.

So I’m leaning WHOOP, but would love to get feedback from anybody who’s used the WHOOP, what they think about the data, how does it feel, etc...TIA

George has suggested the Oura ring. It’s about the same price upfront as the WHOOP + the 1-year commitment. And looks nice. Can’t tell if there’s a monthly suncpscription, though. But what about the reliability of the data, the ease with which to interpret it, and to actually put it to positive use.

Ive had a whoop for almost a year now. Really like it. Can't speak first hand on other similar devices

How does it feel on your wrist? You get used to it and wear it all the time? Data accurate?
What have you gotten the most out of it? Thanks for the response.

If it hadn’t been popped up all over my pages all day, I’d thinking you were making a cockring joke. But for whatever reason, when I click on it, it doesn’t take me to its site. I’ll get to it another way, but what are you thoughts on it relative to the other 2 (or any of the Inspires). Does the Oura Ring provide good, accurate data, or is it less restrictive and more about the aesthetic?

Thank you for contribution as well, Brandon. Long time.

I'll be honest man, I haven't really dug in too much. I think the data is very similar and equally accurate to WHOOP from what I do know - however I think the pricing model is structured differently.

I could be wrong but I don't think the ring is a subscription model. I think it's more on the front end, but again, no "monthly" payments.

Good to see you friend!

Wear it 24 hours a day, you get used to it. Right wrist during the day, left wrist when I go to bed. The sleep data is the #1 thing I use it for, recovery assessment is #2.

Some important info I've learned. When I drink a lot, the next day the whoop will often register no sleep at all, other times less than 2 hours. Passing out in no way registers as restorative sleep. On days when I'm in the green in recovery, with a high HRV, the same activities will register as a much higher calorie burn.

If I do say 40 mins on an elliptical, the machine will often register 800ish calories burned, while my whoop, is like nah, more like 375. Those commercial machines are often tuned to greatly overestimate calories, as consumers like those big numbers and will flock to those machines. I trust my whoop more.

Weight lifting sessions, even hard intense sessions really doesn't burn many calories at all, at least not directly.

Not trying to disagree with you here - but I always assumed that a machine like an elliptical would be pretty accurate because it can estimate the actual work you're doing based on the settings you're using and, along with the HR it is getting from you, would provide a pretty accurate number.

My Apple Watch and an elliptical / stationary bike are usually within 10-15 cal after a 15 min session when I use them.

From what I have seen when I have read (been a while, may not be accurate anymore) was that a Whoop strap was good for sleep tracking and recovery but actually wasn't good for calorie expenditure.
