Short of Breath after Endurance Event

So I rode a 30 mile mountain bike "challenge" over the weekend that was pretty brutal with around 4,000 feet climbing total. I was riding for around 6 hours.
Anyway, I didn't feel bad or anything after the ride and didn't really exert myself any worse than normal; however, I'm now extremely short of breath and trying to take a full, deep breath makes me cough.
The ride started in some pretty damp, chilly weather and involved quite a few stream crossings, so I had wet feet and such, but I never really felt cold or anything. Just curious if anyone else that does long, endurance type events has experience anything similar.

you may have a touch of exercise induced asthma or cold induced asthma
if it persists I would go see your doctor and have him do some pulmonary function tests
if you do have this a simple albuterol inhaler does the trick

Thanks for the input. In researching it prior to posting here, that was sort of my thinking as well. Seems like a definite possibility. I'm feeling better as the day goes on. I just woke up in the middle of the night and had a minor freak out while paying attention to my breathing and trying to get back to sleep. Definitely seemed asthma like in that the freak out seemed to make the shortness of breath worse.

Nothing to worry about. I have experienced this multiple times. Always occurs when I have been off the bike for a while and then go for a big intense ride that my body is not ready for.
