So I know everyone here is less than 200lbs and has a 30-32” waist, but let’s just say that someone here may be about 245 and may possibly have a little bit of a “love handle” situation.

What’s the prevention for a backpack chaffing issue around that area? Wrap an ace bandage around myself...I mean for said hypothetical person?

Anyone else use suspenders? I’m tired of my britches sagging after two hours of sweat drags them down.

Modern hip belts and shoulder straps are thickly padded. I really don't think it will be a problem. The bigger factor is getting a pack that fits correctly. There is a lot of variation between brands. It is well worth the extra money to go to an outdoor store with a knowledgeable salesman instead of ordering online.aq I dont know where you are but I've had good experiences with Pack and Paddle in Lafayette.

I have an Osprey that fits pretty well.

There seems to be an area that gets chaffed around where the pack belt rubs against the belt line of the pants.

Body glide. Brilliant.

It’s definitely the bunching up of clothes that seems to be the culprit.

How big of a backpack do you need? How many liters? How long will your trips be?

Osprey packs have well designed hip belts with lots of padding.

Edit : outdoor board would offer a lot of good insight too.
