I've been having a shooting pain when I play soccer. It started earlier in the year, when I was sprinting and felt like my hand was on fire. This happened the next 2 times I played. I took the summer months off but got back into playing this week. This time I went for a sprint and had a shooting pain all up and down my arm, through my bicep. Seems like I'm having a nerve issue in my arm. I have had shoulder issues on that side since a high school injury I never got fully corrected. I'm wondering if that is finally causing other problems.

My question is: is this serious and should I have someone look at it?

You probably have some kind of impingement. Would be worth it to see an ortho, especially since you have a previous shoulder injury.

Try a sports therapist first. There may be a movement pattern which causes the impingement which may be correctable through stretching and strengthening exercises.

I cringe at Ortho, because everything seems to end in an MRI, and the only thing worse than being injured is getting that dye shot into a joint.

I appreciate y'all's responses. I should get it checked out. It doesn't hurt 99% of the time. Just don't want it to lead to bigger issues.

You may need to get an MRI on your neck. I went through months of pain shooting from my shoulder down my whole arm. Went to Chiropractor, pain meds, emergency room. Finally got an MRI and found 2 herniated discs in my neck.

Agree - I’ve had shooting pain from neck to right arm and hands for over a year and finally got a MRI & found I have a small disc bulge on neck so now onto cortisone injections to alleviate the pain… go to a pain management doctor

Do not just accept cortisone shots, if offered, unless it’s to help you get to a scheduled surgery. A doc gave me a few and it just wasted 6 months of me benching when I could have been rehabbing a torn labrum after repair.
