So I decided I was going to spend the money and see what a local shop thought I needed as far as clubs go. I knew I had very old technology and was just trying to test the waters and see what my next steps could be.

My current WITB (feel free to laugh)

-TM r7 driver with fujikara flex r, mid tip (?)
- affinity 3w - yard sale pickup
- 4hy, 6hy, 7, 8, 9, PW, and GW are all Adam’s V3 hybrid with stock shafts I suppose.
- Callaway Mack daddy 56, s grind
- putter is an old Nike Method Drone that fitter said he has never even seen before.

Now for what was recommended:

So i guess I am trying to figure out what I should upgrade first. There was a bit of sticker shock at $2500. I don’t mind investing some but was wondering if there was a way to find some middle ground.

I should add that I think I hit callaway, mizuno, cobra, and Taylormade. No other brands.

I’m lanky, about 5’9”

This is completely subjective to you. None of us are going to be able to tell you what to upgrade first just based on what you posted. Talk to your fitter and see where he thinks the biggest gains are.

If you struggle with your irons and hit the fitted ones well, I would start there.

If you struggle with driver and hit the fitted driver well, I would start there.

Ok. Thanks for the response

I know I have some gapping issues, I hit driver about 260 now and normally don’t hit my 3W due to inconsistency. I am fairly inconsistent as well with irons so I think I could see biggest difference there.

How particular do I need to be when looking for a set? Or can I make adjustments after.

The shaft specs and lie angles are what really matters. You could buy any heads made within the past few years and put those recommended shafts in them and be good to go.

I got fitted by both the Taylor Made and Callaway reps, I ended up going with the Qi irons (5-pw). I’ll have to say I’m pretty pleased with them, though I’ve only had them a few weeks they’re pretty easy to hit and I’ve just about got the 9 iron dialed in already. Rather than go with the hybrids and deal with the gap from 3w to 5i I went with Titleist U505 1 and 3 irons.

Driver I was fortunate in that I had a Stealth 2 that was starting to separate at the clubface they did a warranty replacement so I got a Qi 10 LS head at no charge. Not sure my old shaft really works with that, so i expect I’ll be fiddling with it some more to get that dialed in. I had a very consistent draw with the steath 2 and this one really likes to fade.

Your driver is where you’d probably get the biggest performance enhancement over the R7. You should pick up considerable distance, especially on missed shots and with much better dispersion if he put you in the right shaft.

You can find a set of new irons from a prior year for way less money and get a similar result to what he’s trying to put you in there the shaft/lie/loft are going to be what matters there

OP, that’s all stock gear. I could find you a much improved set for less than that on the used market. Holler if you’re interested.

If youre having issues with the 3w, my suggestion is going with the 5W and adjust the loft lower. Worked for me at least

Had a hand-me-down Taylormade R1 driver when I first started playing and, to this day, it still is the hottest/best driver I've ever used. Thing was a tank

Probably this. I'm replacing an R5. Spin and ball speed were comparable to the AI Smoke max but new one was 15yrds longer and half the off center distance.
