Oh yeah, forgot about The longest hitter in the world. Sadlowski's arms are massive, don't know how he fits in shirts. That's sarcasm, FYI.

if you think grip strength has anything at all to do with hitting a ball far, you just proved to me you have no clue what you're taking about, and should take your own advice.

You either hit the ball long or you don't.

You brought up arm size and how it hurts you to have big arms. I pointed out that that's not the case.

I'm sorry for pushing your button.

Grip strength is important, if you can't hold it, you can't swing it.

My buddy Kwayne set me up a routine thru his tpi account. Check out #thestable or Kolby Tullier. Or just find a local tpi instructor. You'll be doing weird stuff that won't impress the ladies though.

Not even close. A solid routine could see you gain massive yards. Strengthening your core is huge.

some of the long drive guys are big, some aren't. look at the guys who are big, they are also tall. so they sacrifice some swing speed for heavier arms which produces more smash factor, but they also have long arms so they can get away with it.

but, they still have to get their hips and body out of the way of those bulky arms, and that's not an easy thing to do and takes exceptional lower body ability. So, I guess there are some who could possibly benefit from bulk, but they still have to have extremely strong abs and thighs to move that bulk around.

So, I will concede it could possibly help a few people if you have the right size and only plan on hitting long clubs so you have room to swing. But, I content that for the overwhelming majority of folks who play golf and want to gain more distance, getting big arms is not going to help.

having strong arms, esp forearms, and strong hands/grip strength will absolutely help you hit the ball farther ...

LINK

The best swing in the wirld us only as effective as the strength of the fingers to hang onto the club at impact. If your hands are weak, the shock of impact will move them on the club. Exercise your hands, overtrain them--they can't be too strong...

now, i'm no henry cotton ... but then again, he's no anonymous internet expert himself ... lucky for him he took his own advice ...

From the yoga link:

quote:

That headline is not hyperbole. Hip mobility plays a key role in creating more speed when you swing the club, and a few great yoga poses can help you internally and externally rotate the hip joint to get that speed.

Better mobility translates to faster swings, but not necessarily because it allows you to rotate your hips faster to lead the club down into the ball during the downswing. The kind of swing Rory McIlroy performs. Instead, the purpose of improved mobility is to improve your turn off the ball, which allows you to make a bigger swing. The farther the club has to travel to get back to the ball, the more time there is to gather speed.

Do wrist rolls with a 5lb weight. Squeeze a racket ball or tennis ball.
