My mom is getting Shield for my daughter for Christmas. I've never played any Pokemon games before so I really don't know much about what having different versions does. I tried to look this up on the internet but most of the articles I find are about why everyone is mad about not having the full Pokedex and I really couldn't care less about that as, like I said, I haven't played any Pokemon games before.

What are the benefits to owning both Sword and Shield? Do you simply get access to more Pokemon? Is each game a different world map? Can you transfer Pokemon between the two games?

If any of you own both versions, do you think it was worth buying both?

Do you plan on playing too? My son and I are both playing the same game of Sword but I just created a separate Switch profile so he can have his own save file. But the problem is only the user who’s connected to the paid Nintendo online account can use any of the online functions.

I was trading with someone for the water starter and a Machoke to get it evolved and he’s all pissed he can’t do that too

I think I might. If that is the case, you think it would be better if I played Sword and she played Shield, or vice versa?

They are actually different this time. Different gyms, different characters. The experience is different. So yeah.
