for the most part people want the best graphics possible.
I'm not convinced of this. The game of the year last year was a cel-shaded Switch game. Of the others in the top 5 were Odyssey and Persona 5. Neither of which are pushing graphical boundaries. People just want good games.

Games were way overpriced in the 90s just like vhs were in the 80s.

GTA V was the most profitable game of 2017 despite being released in 2013. If people want to buy extra shite (different outfits, color schemes for their guns, or boosts for offline mods like in sports games) then by all means let those folks do so, but don't make online games pay to win or give me half of a single player game.

I just bought Spider-Man and that game has a pay season pass which is horse shite. Just sell extra spidey outfits if you wanna milk 15 year olds' allowance money.

I really like the warframe model. I know it’s not feasible for every company to adopt that, but it’s so cool they give you the entire base game for free. There’s literally not one piece of content you’re excluded from if you choose to not spend money, you’ll just have to grind your arse off to get the armor and weapons you want. Couple cosmetics locked behind paywall but nothing essential to playing the game.
