What's the jack in the wall connected to? Does your apt or dorm have free high speed Internet?

If you have anything besides Eatel FiberEdge service, you will have a modem and you have to plug the ethernet cable from the router to an end device (computer, router)

So you have internet service? Simple solution then. Go to WM, or wherever, buy a $40 wireless router, plug in as instructions read, turn it on, your xbox360 has wireless built in and all you have to do is tell it to connect to the connection made by the wireless router and stay connected. It's simple

You dont necessarily need a router. It depends where your Internet comes from.

Incorrect, he HAS to have a router, because someone else is using the internet connection.

Agreed, unless it's a dorm or something and each jack has it's own Ip

If that were the case I'm sure he'd know he had that option.

Why not just hook up the 360 and give it a shot? What's this ethernet cable coming out of the wall connected to? That sounds a little strange

I just want to know what the hell's the ethernet jack for then?

Surely, there wouldn't just be a random ethernet jack that goes to nowhere.
