Hellz yeah but I gots plans. Adding a second 7950 and the Asus 144hz monitor. CaNt wait.

Let me know how crossfire goes and how you like that refresh rate. Some of those 1440 monitors are claiming overclock ability up to 120. I don't know if that's legit.

Oh no I'm not getting a 1440 monitor. 1080p with 144hz refresh rate. I will though.

Those are usually $550+

I have mine at 75, but I'm going to see how high I can get it tonight

They are? Damn..

I purchased mine for 429 or something. You could also buy the part for 120hz yourself. All the panels are the same in those koreans, you can buy a board with better processing power and switch it out. Those boards run for $80-$100 bucks.

ETA:
Also IPS displays "blur" around 90FPS. shite looks like an oil painting when tons of crap is going on. I keep mines around you Blue, 80hz.

You can get a 7950 or $250 now. Hard to pass that up. Makes me want to upgrade but from a 7870 it's not a big enough jump to motivate me

Same Tahiti core but smaller bus and some SMXs locked. I would buy a second before purchasing a 7950, but you know that already.

My plans for building a PC are starting to be put into motion. I figure I can get about $200-300 for my laptop and $200-250 for my 250GB Xbox 360. That'll leave me with about $600 or more after all my PC purchases, plenty of money to buy some games and get the textbooks I'll need next semester. I will probably return to this thread for build advice once I get everything straight.

The 7870 xt uses a Tahiti core like the 7900 series but the regular 7870 uses the Pitcairn core.

I know what you meant. I want to hear about the performance if crossfire these days.

7870s in Cfx?

I have/had 2x7950s in CFx. They performed like maniacs. Only complaint is the weird affects in games with CFx, more stuttering than I experienced with other SLi/CFx setups. Then again I never gamed much on it since it was secondary rigs.

I wanted to know that too.

I figured out what case I'm going to get. NZXT Switch 810 has everything I want for a nice price tag.

Coyote while you're here, what do you think about this for an intro into an open loop setup?

Awesome thank you very much. I was a little concerned at why it was so cheap and the pump. Thanks for the validation.

Anyone have opinions on this build? My friend came up with it and it works perfectly for my budget. Stout suggested one for me but it is more expensive now and would make me basically broke until I could sell my Xbox 360 and laptop.

I think the pump could "whine" and is limited on expansion. You intentions would only be to add a GPU block and another 240/360 RAD anyway, you would be more than okay with that setup.

Get 2 modules of RAM "8GB(2x4GB)". That way you will run Dual Channels.

Maybe upgrade to a 600W PSU because those AMD parts come at a higher TDP. This will also allow you to OC a little, just for fun and for "free" performance boosts.

ETA:
Other than that, great choices. You will be more than satisfied.

Right on, another question that's in the same realm. Do you have any experience with universal GPU water blocks? If so, then were just using independent heat sinks for the memory sufficient?

Sure don't, always had full cover blocks.

They work fine but if you plan on pushing more volts for OCing, you want active cooling not passive. This means a full cover waterblock which actively cools the VRM.

Right, that's the only regret I have about not getting a card with a reference pcb
