Yeah I did have an EA account now that I think about it. Haven't logged into it in year or two though, maybe I should take a look at that.

I think EA is the root cause. Too many times I hear stories of EA accounts and Xbox accounts with the same password. This has to be the breach IMO.

The people on this board discounted me for the most part and said "Can't happen to me". It's getting more widespread. Xbox forums full of reports of hacked accounts

This guy's story would drive me crazy
quote:
I think I have everyone here beat as far as damages go almost $600 was stolen from my bank account before I noticed the fraud
December 26th - First charges were made for 6000 and 4000 microsoft points totalling $124.98
December 27th - Second purchase made for 6000 microsoft points costing $74.99. New total $199.97
December 29th - Recieve suspicious email about FIFA soccer 2012 sign up
December 30th - Third charges made for another 6000 and 4000 MS points - New total now at $324.95
Januaury 1st, 2012 - Another 6000 and 4000 MS points purchased - New total $449.93
Januaury 2nd - 800, 1600, 1600, and 6000 MS points purchased - Grand total stolen from my bank account $574.89
I didn't notice this until the 1st of January when I tried logging into my GT and was repeatedly kicked off saying that it was logged on another console somehwere. So I called XBOX support, they said they would investigate and shut down my account in the mean time.
Januaury 10th - I have my account restored as of now, however the 1600 MS points I had on there before my account was hacked are now gone and not restored.
I did however find some guy named Danny Warby in the UK who apparently had my account. From what I have researched it appears that someone is hacking accounts, transfering a bunch of points to them and then selling them at a lower price than what MS offers on an ebay like auction site. Read this if you want to find out more details hackedonxbox.tumblr.com

I dont use points for anything. I dont rent from Zune, use Netflix, or purchase points that I store. When I buy points, I deposit 12.99 in my bank, use my card to buy points for Map Packs and that is it. I dont even use my card over the internet to pay bills.

That woman is the one that will finally expose the world to what has been happening. EA and Microsoft have been denying.

I'm on the phone with Xbox Customer Support right now taking my credit card information off. They are about to e-mail me codes for Xbox Live Gold that will last through what would have been the renewal date for my subscription. The whole process looks like it's only going to take about 10 minutes.

Better to do it now than have to deal with this crap
And don't think it "won't happen to me". Trust me, I'm VERY secure when it comes to sharing any type of info online, as is my friend whom this happened to as well about 3 months ago. I'm not sure how we got targeted. Also I'd enable the notification to send you an email when xbox live points are added or purchased. That's the only way I knew yesterday right when it happened. Got the email and was like oh shite here we go

They canceled auto renew, remove the credit card, and had to cancel my subscription and emailed me a code to sign back up for the remainder of my 12 month gold account.
How hard was this to do? I remember Broke saying it was a pain in the arse. I want to call them tonight and have this done.

I just did it in about 10 minutes. At first, they tried to short me a couple of weeks, but when I mentioned it, he immediately offered to add an extra month.

I just call 1-800-4my-xbox?

You also need to change the password on your windows live ID. They may have added their email as an alternate and can just take back over your account again if they want. Remove all of their information from it.

Took about 10 minutes. Not as bad as I thought it would be. My main concern was removing the CC info. Done.

I had mentioned that I was doing it because I had heard of credit card information being compromised, but I was referring to the fact they were going to short me a couple of weeks. If they had given me any problems about adding an extra month to keep from shorting me, I wouldn't have put up with it. Even though it didn't take long, it's still an inconvenience, and it will be a further inconvenience when I have to purchase a card instead of having it renew automatically.

Not as big of an inconvenience as losing your account for 69 days.
