They intend on continuing the story line (as MK9 was mostly rehashing and returning to gameplay roots) and going into the future. One character is "Cassie Cage"

she's Johnny and Sonya's daughter. Her fatality on the gameplay preview showed her pop a cap in the victim's head and on the wound placed bubblegum, which filled and popped. I'm both excited and nervous about this new game. I hope they aren't getting too carried away as they have in the past.

They had 26 characters in the last game not including the DLCs.

We know of 7 characters right now:

Scorpion
Sub-Zero (not sure how he's in the story since he was converted into a cyborg then killed in MK9)
D'Vorah
Ferrah Torr
Kotal Kahn
Cassie Cage
Raiden

If it picks up where MK9 left off, here are the SURVIVING characters:

Raiden
Johnny Cage
Sonya Blade
Mileena
Baraka
Reptile
Sheeva
Sektor
Cyrax
Quan Chi
Kano
