And that's exactly it. It's not bothersome if the developers know the premise is thin and just make a fun, lighthearted game. But when they try to drop this anvil of suck into a world previously devoid of these elements, it's unforgivable. Like if link's character suddenly became cloud from FF7 and stopped outside of every dungeon to question whether he has the mettle to retrieve the next medallion and what the great deku tree would advise if it were still alive.

Luckily, Link will keep true to the series in Skyward Sword by having no spoken dialog. Miyamoto stated in an interview recently that his team discussed it, but the idea was quickly shot down.

Like tom and jerry, some icons just don't talk.

And making them talk is never a good idea.

How does the game compare to Super Metroid?

And I agree that too much plot can kill a game like Metroid. A game can still be immersive without having to be kafkaesque in its story telling. Not every hero has to be the troubled anti hero.

game is great, plot to me is forgettable but I play games for gameplay for the most part, and this one delivers.

they could have done worse on Samus. I agree the personalization of her is mediocre but they basically took a character that never talked and put some personality in her.

you really can't win no matter what in that situation.

the game is incredible even considering all that.
