Gaming console advice?

Can anyone recommend a retro gaming console? I’ve seen the emulators for sale. Just can’t find any information about what’s good and what’s not. I’ve had the retro NES and it crapped out so I’m not looking for one of those. From what I’ve seen they are a lot like the fire stick where you plug and play. For those that have gone this route, is it as easy as it’s made out to be?

For anything up to PS3 just get/build a PC with a mid-level G/CPU and use emus.
But also get authentic controllers - you can get adapters for literally every one.
If you just want 8-32bit, anything with dedicated graphics will do it.

I have a modded PS1 classic that has thousands of games from all the 8bit and 16 bit consoles plus arcade games loaded on it. I got mine off Etsy but you can sometimes find them on Ebay.
Here is a listing for one on Etsy LINK
It uses RetroArch. Same as mine. Its pretty easy to use. You could of course go the RetroPie route and hunt down the roms yourself but Im too lazy.

Not wanting to build a cpu. Looking for something plug and play. Just not like the “Nintendo classic.” That’s a cheap piece of shite.

I've been looking for the same thing in terms of pre-2000s. It seems like the following are pretty much considered the best:
1. LINK / polymega
2. LINK / analogue
Both are pricey but they tend to be the ones that I hear about often in terms of quality.
Edit: I know that you're looking for plug and play but there is also the retropie option. In addition I've heard that nvidia shield can be good for emulation too.

It sounds like he wants to play the classics… like I said any modern PC with integrated graphics and a trip to Vimms gives you NES/SNES/Genesis/PS1
You need an i5 or better for N64 - that thing was actually a Frankenstein’s monster of a console that needs a strong CPU to emu
