Pretty damn solid game just released on the consoles. Think of it as Sonic meets Mega Man. The story takes up way too much of the game, but when you beat it you unlock Classic Mode for all of the characters and can play it just like old Sonic.
Highly recommend its gameplay for anyone wanting to relive the Genesis days:
