Is this game for me? I enjoyed Oblivion and Fable, but grew tired of them after a few weeks. Is this game similar to those, or is there enough suspense and change to keep me interested?

Alan Wake is fun. I've never played Oblivion or Fable, but I don;t think it compares to them. It is a very good story, sadly it is a short game.
ETA: They also have abotu 2 or 3 expansion packs for it if you really like it and want to extend it a little. The suspense is good and the story line is good. I think you would enjoy it. I did

yeah kind of but not as scary. lol. In this, your wife dissappears and you are trying to find her. At night, a "darkness" comes over the town and you deal with that. It plays like a suspenseful TV show to be honest. At the beginning of each level, it always starts off as "Previously on Alan Wake", then goes into a short cut scene of what has been going on. Neat concept.

I may have to check it out. Do you think rental, used, or new?

Game? Amnesia: The Dark Descent

TV show? Yes. Twin peaks meets lost.

This game took me by surprise as one of the best stories in a video game I have ever seen. For those out there looking for innovative, original ideas, this is the game to go for. The game play is different from everything in the market as of now, but it is really well executed. The action and narrative pace keep the game going solid throughout. The environments are fantastic and the characters are interesting.I'd recommend picking it up for a discounted price.

Both Alan Wake and Vanquish in my mind really went under the radar last year. Is it worth paying $60? No, but its a steal for $20-$25

I've not played it since the first DLC. Maybe rent, but if you can find a used copy for cheap, go for it and you might want to download the extras

I actually got bored with it and stopped playing. It was really repetitive to me. I'll probably pick it back up soon though

I have been thinking about a new game, and seeing this one listed in the exclusive thread, thought I might ask about it. Thanks for the info, I may call gamestop on Monday.

Really? Give it another shot. After I played the DLC, I went back and started it on the hardest level. Very challenging as it took 2-3 times the amount of light on them to weaken them and more bullets. I'm actually thinking about starting it back up this weekend after being in this thread.

Gotcha, like The Darkness? If that was the game with the long haired dude, Jackie, I think. It was a little weird.

Not sure. Don't remember that one. I think you will enjoy this though. If not, let Broke give it a whirl. Just tell him to have his pace maker charged up before playing. lol

Is it that suspenseful? If so, I may have to borrow his depends.

Awesome. I refused to play Condemned at night. That was a good game, scary, and fun

Maybe that's why I jumped on Alan Wake. I did play it at night.

Worth a rental, but I thought the storyline was goofy and had to force myself to finish the game.

SPOILER** At one point to go on a long arse hike to the top of a mountain to meet a guy you know is lying to you the entire time. This takes about a solid 2 hours and is clearly just filler. Pissed me off.
