Thank you...
Sysco is a food distributor. While some products they distribute are “SYSCO Brand” they are made by the same national brand manufacturers that you are familiar with.
What I was speaking about was this idea that I see on the board where people claim a restaurant serves “reheated SYSCO food” as a knock on their quality.
Almost every restaurant, including most white tablecloth/fine dining restaurants uses SYSCO Or one of their competitors like US Foodservice or Performance FoodService to deliver most of their supplies. They may supplement with some locally sourced food, but most food purchases will come from a Broadline Distributor like SYSCO.
Sysco sells and distributes 1000’s of food and non food products from Prime Beef to Fresh Seafood and Produce, to dry goods, to chemicals and supplies and yes, some prepared foods.
People just need to understand they are a distributor and not a producer. They sell products from every quality level and price point. A SYSCo truck in a restaurant’s parking lot says absolutely nothing about the quality of the food they serve. They are essentially a supermarket for restaurants that delivers.
I don’t work for them, and I don’t really like the way they do business (they are a bully) but the Food and Drink board’s “SYSCO Food” trope is just ignorant and needs to die.

I’m quite familiar with them, and all I can say is they are very well oiled machine.
And you’d be surprised how many restaurants use precooked products, just about all do in one shape or form...
Why do you say they’re a bully? Curious.

So, I’ve worked for a competitor to SYSCO and also as a large scale corporate supplier to SYSCO. They’ve done some things typical of corporations in a dominant position in their industry... strong arming vendors, marketing and shelter money programs that are veritably extortionist (completely legal mind you) and they’ve degraded the opportunity for their sales people, which has had a trickle down effect on the industry as a whole.
I was extremely thankful that the government blocked their acquisition of USF or they’d have been a de facto monopoly inside of a decade.

They all do it, Sysco has the largest market share by far so sure they’re going to maximize their position. Whether it’s US, PFG, IMA Group, or Sysco they all do it .
Walmart is no different .
Sysco’s not for everyone, but I think they do a really good job and are fair overall.
