I have a theory that many people don't like tequila because they think Jose Cuervo is supposed to be decent tequila.
I definitely agree

Espolon is fine but if this guy is into tequila it's very much an "entry level" option.
True, but he said it still primary be used for margaritas.
To that point, OP, will they be using a mix or do they actually use fresh ingredients? If they are the type that use a mix, the tequila won't matter much

I’m looking more into tequila also.
Love bourbon…wild turkey, wilderness trail, OF, enjoy higher proofs.
I have limited tequila experience. Enjoyed Casamigos as a shot and Don Julio 1892. I’m aware these are different ends of the spectrum.
What tequila can I walk into any decent liquor store and enjoy as a sipper?

A lot of good recommendations in here then. Just make sure it is 100% agave.

I am far from a tequila expert, but best sippers coming from bourbon would be an Anejo or Reposados. Fortaleza Reposado is a good start

I got Russell's Reserve 10 Year and Cazul 100 Blanco Reserva. Thanks again, fellas. Total Wine was out of some of the recs.

The best tequila value is Gran Centenario Anejo which will run you about $35 in most liquor stores in La if they have it(dorignac's has it and marcellos has it Laffy)..in Texas Total wine has it for $26 bucks ....we bought it for years in Mexico for $12 at the duty free store...great stuff for the money!
