For some reason I keep seeing ads for these smoke contraptions. What is the appeal to pumping smoke into whisky? I’ve never tried it but wondering what it does to the drink.

Someone gave me one a couple months ago. Cool novelty. Adds a smokiness obviously, but just kind of gimmicky. Guess no moreso than bitters or the like though.
Foghat is the brand of this one.
I get to set something on fire while drinking, so really it checks some boxes.

Had a cocktail at a restaurant and they would pour the cocktail into a bourbon bottle and then fill with smoke and bring to the table capped.
You decide how “smokey” you want it by how long you let it sit. It has the same appeal as drinking a bourbon and smoking a cigar at the same time does IMO. It’s fun to experiment with at least

The aroma when you sip the drink. It's pretty good stuff. I got a smoked drink made with an actual piece of birch wood not long ago, and it was great.
