Yeah, putting a chain steakhouse across the street from a chain steakhouse is about as BR as it gets

Chains, especially right off the interstate and within striking distance of hotels are the American way - this isn't a BR thing.

Besides, for travelers, Saltgrass isn't even going to come across as a chain as it's a more of a Texas thing that's just now growing regionally.

Really, I don't understand the stereotype of BR as a chain restaurant haven. This is only true if your worldview doesn't extend beyond the BR-NOLA area, and it's NOLA that's the outlier here not BR.

For reference (Comparing some national chains):

BR has no TGI Friday's, 1 Olive Garden, 1 Applebees (even though they tried to open a second), and 3 Chili's. The TGI Friday's that was on Essen failed as well, with no attempt to restart it.

Buffalo NY is slightly bigger than BR: 2 TGI Friday's, 4 Olive Gardens, 7 Applebees, and 5 Chili's (per playing around on Google maps).

I agree. They are a lot better than Outback or some of those other chains. I'm in Baton Rouge every 3 weeks for 2-3 on business and that place is close to the hotels I frequent. I'm happy that place is there. The mac and cheese is also damn good with that reasonably priced ribeye.
