I use chicken manure almost exclusively. It's good and cheap. When I turn my soil I can get buckets of works.
In a raised bed I have a French drain which helps. Bought it at some irrigation place off Industriplex. Name escapes me. And I have a sprinkler I just set I front and adjust to water. This makes it easy to work around.
