Picnic roast going on the smoker

Got a whole picnic roast and I'm about to light the smoker. I usually trim the skin off should I leave it on for the smoke? What do you typically do with whole skin on picnic?

Fry the skin in some oil. Let it rest. Fry it again in some really hot oil.
