Pat Gallagher's 527 review

So my wife and I just got back from dinner there for my birthday.
We had reservations for 6:30 which my wife made Monday. We walked in and we promptly seated at out table...which was a cocktail table in the bar, which barely fit the two of us with people crowded all around. I went and told the hostess this was not acceptable and she apologized and said she would get us an actual table. We waited another 30 minutes and then were seated.
We got the fried calamari and oysters pablo for appetizers. They were both fantastic. The oysters pablo are basically their take a charbroiled oysters and they were probably the best I've had. For entrees I got the 16 oz prime strip and she got the filet. They were both very, very good. My wife's was definitely closer to medium rare than the medium which she ordered, but that worked out well for me to eat the left overs. We got the garlic mashed potatoes as a side, and they were also delicious.
Our bill including an old fashioned for me was $136. I thought it was reasonable for the quantity and quality of food. However, in addition to the table issues, our waiter was practically non existent. We saw him maybe 3 times and never even got his name. If not for the bus boys we'd probably still be sitting there waiting.
All in all I certainly enjoyed the food. However, we were both supremely disappointed with the quality of service. I certainly not one to bitch and moan about every restaurant experience, and I'm sure our experience was an anomaly, but still I don't think I'll be going back.

I favor the Hwy 21 location over 527.
Sorry to hear of your bad experience. Pat does amazing dishes. He can't judge crawfish worth a shite, but does amazing at his restaurants, IMO.

Gallaghers on 21 is a can't miss. Food, drinks and service are always top shelf.
Service issues sound like a one off though in your case

That all sums up my last trip to 527. I left feeling like I'd been neglected/blown off by the waitstaff, but wanted to eat everything we had ordered again.
Haven't been back since. It doesn't matter. He's got his local clientele/following at that location. He doesn't need/care about drop ins on a Friday. That's the sad truth of it. The food is delicious though.

Just as a general statement, IMO Food quality>service. Obviously, you want good service, but as long as the food is great, I can put up with shitty service. I'm just not tipping shite, but I'll still eat there as long as the food is great. I basically get a really good meal for $20+ dollars less because my tip will be $0 if service is shite no matter how much the meal was.
