when I visit my mother, the Baton Rouge poboys really suck. I'm a native of New Orleans, and spent most of my life down there

I'm from New Orleans.
And by that I mean a native of Orleans Parish, not Avondale.
I can personally vouch that Pocorello's serves up po-boys that are as good, if not better, than plenty of those that I've grown up on. All served on traditional bread delivered to them from NOLA bakeries. Even Acme uses legit bread.
Nobody on this board would ever argue that any place besides NOLA is Po-Boy HQ. But if you're saying you can't find a NOLA-quality Po-Boy in BR, you're just not looking.

I like the calamari poboy at Chelsea's. Fried calamari with parmesan and tomato basil on the side.
This.

The hot dog bun thing is pretty prevalent in BR, however, there are many aforementioned places that serve real poboy bread, Pocorello's being my favorite. His Hoagie poboy or the meatball with eggplant are a one of a kind in BR, if you're looking for originality.
The Rocket sandwich at Jasmine's is excellent, but it is not a poboy.

Got this based on your recommendation, and it was solid, bread snobs notwithstanding. After you so nailed the boudin judging awhile back, I have been following your reviews closely. Keep 'em coming!
