FYI, the place re-opened under new management. It's now called "La Cabana", it was bought out by a relative of the previous owner.
They will still sell $1.50 tacos and other taqueria fare, though they will offer some regular restaurant entrees as well (menu differs from the last place). They're presently waiting to get their new liquor license, when they get it, they're going to have a live mariachi band perform on the weekends as well.
They're also in the process of adding a small grocery store area. I haven't had the chance to try the food yet, but the place looks promising.

There was a place on Tiger Bend called Tex Mex, back in 1999 or so...it was awesome!

Yeah, a guy I know bought it after Tex Mex closed, and called it Margarita's. It didn't last long, for reasons that I can't go into here
La Mexicana/La Cabana both inhabit the same spot that Tex Mex and Margarita's were in.

Afreaux, did you ever go to Tex Mex back in the day? I wanna say Wednesday night was the drink special night? Was the food good at Tex Mex, I don't recall??

Nope. I didn't eat at restaurants until after I graduated from LSU.

I don't drink either, so I'd know even less about what night drink specials fell on
I have no idea if the food was good there. I never thought that was a good location for a restaurant, so the food might not have been the reason why the place eventually closed.
