I haven't found any in BR that compare to the ones in Houston (Morning Kolaches or Kolache Factory).

Not even close.

The ones at Wholly donuts made me physically ill.

Thee Heavenly Donuts are ok, but still just a pig-in-a-blanket.

Mary Lee's...well...nuff said.

Haven't tried Central Donuts, so I'll hold out judgment on them.

Haven't had a real kolache in about 3 or 4 years. I'm getting kinda antsy...

I make something similar to kolaches (or pig in a blanket)... its really simple and yummy..
Buy crescent rolls, little smokies or some type of sausage and cheese.

Unroll the crescent roll dough, cut each triangle in half, top with smokie or cut up sausage, top with small slice of cheese, bake until "golden brown" they are pretty legit. You can add whatever in them.
