We'll be heading up to Rocky Top for a long weekend and are looking for fun places for a small group (2-3 couples). TIA

Don't go to Calhoun's.
For food I would recommend Stock and Barrel (burgers) or Chivo (tacos) for something good and casual and in the heart of downtown.
There are a lot of other places I can recommend if you have more specific wants / tastes.
For breweries... there are a lot.
Crafty Bastard, Hi-Wire, Abridged, Schulz Brau, Balter Beerworks, and Alliance are my favorites.. there are many more. If you have specific beer or atmosphere wants I can help.

As far as beer goes, I like stouts and porters this time of year, but I like most other styles except sours. The folks I’m going with are more Hefeweizen and hazy IPA people I think.
Not looking for anything too upscale. Something casual and local preferably. Stock and Barrel and Balter beerworks look good and will be on the list. Those are exactly the types of places we’re looking for. Any good BBQ or soul food type places in that area?
Thanks again

Sweet P's for BBQ is my favorite - a short walk from Balter if you don't eat there.
Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken is pretty great too.. a few minutes outside of downtown.

For breakfast I highly recommend 417 Union.

Sweet P's is a good BBQ spot.
It's real close to a few of my favorite spots in town... Balter (great food, good beer), Knox Whiskey Works, Postmodern Spirits, and Prententious Beer Co.
Stock and Barrel is a great option for lunch/dinner if you want burgers.
If you get out to Gus's Fried Chicken, you'll almost be across the street from Albright Grove Brewing, which is new and pretty solid. They should have a wide range of styles.
Blackhorse Brewery downtown is a good brewpub, but skip Downtown Grill & Brewery.
South Knox: Hi-Wire taproom, South Coast Pizza, Alliance, and Printshop are all good options. The three taprooms will allow you to bring in the pizza.
Just north of downtown, Elkmont is a decent brewpub, Schulzbrau is a German style beer garden with traditional German food. Crafty Bastard has a taproom, Elst is a relatively new taproom, and Next Level brewing just opened a taproom a few weeks ago. Also the Abridged Oak Room opened up recently, with a focus on sour beers... they are connected with Abridged Brewing out in West Knox... a great spot but a bit out of the way.
There are a few other breweries around town, but none that I would suggest you go out of your way for.
If you are flying in, and want to kill some time in Maryville, check out Round 6 Brewing and Blackberry Farms.

Stock and Barrel is one of the few places that stuck out. Not a brewery but I thought the Peter Kern Library was cool. It's a little hidden bar in The Oliver Hotel in the theme of a speakeasy.

It's a really cool spot and worth a visit, but last time I went it was packed and they were taking entirely too long for the drinks. I understand each one is "crafted" but it was 20+ minutes from ordering to getting the drink. Ended up bailing early and going to Casual Pint next door.

I need to do more dining downtown... currently it seems like whenever we get a chance it's a brewery or brewpub.
