Keeping horseradish strong

Is it me or does the store bought horseradish like Zatarains etc seem to lose its strength alot quicker after opening than it used to? We have to add wasabi to any jar of horseradish that was opened 5 or more days before using again.

Is there a better way? Even the stuff homemade from the root seems to fade fast.
