For those that have been to the area, tell me some must visit places please.

Can be for breakfast/brunch/lunch/dinner or just drinks. I've never been and want to know what places I need to check out.

Thanks

My grandfather grills a fine steak. Also has quite the wine collection.

ETA: There is also this fine establishment

For Thai, try Suriya Thai. Hands down the best Thai place have ever been to in the states. The owners are Thai and won't allow anyone outside of the family to cook. My wife is from that area (Cape Coral) and knows the owners of the place very well. She is really good friends with one of the daughters. We always stop by when we are down there and they always give us new items not on the menu to try. Highly recommended.

Jason's Deli is another awesome place. When done there, you can always step next door and get an ice cream at Cold Stone. However, they do have ice cream on site in dispensers - our children love that. I prefer Coldstone, though.

In Cape Coral, every now and then we stop by a little pizza place called Ciao Wood Fired pizza. Good stuff!

We have only had breakfast at one place - Mel's Diner, which was actually pretty good. Standard diner fare.

Other than that, we don't venture out to eat all that often because of those crazy stupid family things. We do take the kids to the Shell Factory - which they love seeing the animals. The Imaginarium Science Center is also loved by our kids.

Other than that, not much there... (And I mean, not much at all.)

No problem. Suriya Thai is just plain awesome.

Are you going with family or yourself? Not much of a place and not a whole lot to do - although I may be jaded due to the fact that inlaws are freakin idiots, to put it nicely.

I stayed on Cape Coral for a vacation. We found ourselves driving over to Sanibel for eats, simply because of the concentration of places.

In that case, scratch my response about the Shell Factory (unless ya'll are into the touristy shop and seeing animals) and the science center.

We only go down once, maybe twice a year at most, a year and tend to do the whole visiting thing more than anything else. If you like, I will talk to my wife and get some more ideas.

You'll love it. As far as food, there are enough places where you can sort of window shop or do drive-bys before you make a decision.

If it's not too much trouble that would be great.

We are both 30ish and have never been in the area, so I was just wanted to get an idea of what to expect.

Quick update: my wife just so not eloquently informed me that the Thai place is Siam Hut in Cape Coral. Seems that I was thinking of the wrong place.

If you like the touristy/historical stuff, my wife loves the Edison and Ford estates. For some reason she loves that big arse banyan tree. She said she can't add much to Sanibel than what has already been posted.

In Cape Coral, she says Ceno Grill and Slate's are pretty good depending on your taste. As for things to do, there isn't much at all. Golf is your best bet.

As far as Fort Meyers, you can see some of the major league teams in spring training if you go in that time frame. Other than that, nada really. You could go see some manatees at the Manatee Park. Restaurants: she llkes Rueben's, Mina's Bistro, and also Sasse's.

She asked "what in the hell do they want to go all the way down to that shite hole for?" Notice that none said there is much to do - because there isnt...unless you are a retiree.

Oh, and if you go through the small towns like Stark, Waldo, etc. be sure that you don't even go one mph over the limit. You have been warned!

If you are near Fort Myers Beach, Heavenly Biscuit is a great breakfast place. It's small but really good. Bennett's is really good for breakfast if you near the downtown area.

I second Sasse's. It's a family owned Italian restaurant.

Square One has pretty good burgers, and Fancy's has good food.

Fort Myers also just opened a Zaxby's a few days ago.

Lots of chain restaurants in Fort Myers area. You may want to check out the Gulf Coast Town Center area. It's close to FGCU.
