Costco craze, CNBC report

Never watched this before, did today. Even more impressed with this company between the quality control, R&D and how they treat their employees. Worth a watch if you have not seen it.
"Costco is famous for turning the experience of warehouse shopping into an adventure. Costco, one of the nation’s top three retailers and the world’s largest membership warehouse chain, has thrived by turning convention on its head. The company never advertises, charges its 64 million members to shop there and doesn’t mark up any product more than 15 percent. It’s a business model that works, generating $93 billion in annual sales.
Correspondent Carl Quintanilla shows how Costco has grown to 600 stores, attracting loyal and affluent customers. They return repeatedly for the treasure-hunt thrill of constantly changing inventory, including diamond rings, steaks, wedding dresses and caskets. This CNBC Original documentary also explores a “Costco Effect,” the routine tendency of its members to succumb to the store’s discount-chic allure and spend more than they expect, often buying more than they need."

I sure as hell spend more than I plan practically every single time I go. It's not budget busting spending, usually its advance purchasing: the TP is on sale, or I stock up on peanut butter, or pork tenderloins, etc. Heck, I'm looking at a leather sofa on the Costco website right now.

I do to but unlike Sams we tend to consume what we get there. Seems like when we use to shop at Sams half the time we end up throwing stuff out.

Reminds me I need to go pick up a package of those giant kirkland brand hotdogs and some buns.

They do advertise though- I get a booklet pitching sales items in the mail once a month from them.

Costco is like the Amazon of brick and mortar stores. They just do it better than everyone else.
Literally the only thing I miss about living in the city is being so close to Costco. I'd go several times a week.

I don't think they blast these out to an area code but is targeted to either card holders or someone signing up for info. Just a guess though.
