Planning on making a trip to Charleston soon and wanted to check out some of the breweries. As far as I know there are three; Westbrook, Palmetto, and Holy City. I have tried a lot of beers by Westbrook but have never tried or seen anything by Palmetto and Holy City. Has anyone toured any of these breweries and if so how were they? Also how are the beers by Palmetto and Holy City? TIA.

You forgot Coast Brewing which is arguably the best.
-Holy City is good. I really liked their Pluff Mudd porter and Oyster stout. I don't recall having any IPAs from Holy City.
-Palmetto reminded me a lot of Abita or Shiner. Lagers, Ambers, Pale Ale...nothing exciting.
Check out Charleston Beer Exchange right off Broad and Exchange.
ETA: I remember going to some brewpub close to Waterfront Park. Skip it...it was a glorified BJ's Brewhouse.

Coast brewing is better than Westbrook?

Westbrook
Screw Westbrook.
I hope they go out of business for introducing me to Orange Bliss and then discontinuing it.
Bastards!
p.s. Mouton, did you get an invitation to fill out a survey about an LSU Almumni Chapter in Savannah? Or are you really a Washington fan?

You mean southend and I agree.

It's not a brewery, but the firefly distillery is right outside Charleston and they do tour/tastings as well.

I've been to all of them except Freehouse, but supposedly their place is legit. They're known for their saison.
Holy City is my favorite to visit. Laid back atmosphere with picnic tables, pool table, and corn hole set up. Other than their staples, they have about ~10 rotating taps. IPAs/APAs are good and favor more of the hop forward/citrus side of the spectrum. They brew some nice stouts as well.
Coast is another laid back place. They've recently expanded, but are still a fairly small outfit. Their Boy King DIPA is world class and they rarely miss with their other beers. They probably have the best top to bottom lineup in Charleston.
Westbrook is a big brewery with a nice tasting room. Not many beers on tap other than their regulars. Usually have Evil Twin on tap since it's brewed there. I only really visit when I want a growler or for a release.
Don't waste your time with Palmetto. Their only good beer is the espresso porter. Everything else is mediocre at best.
Frothy Beard is a small warehouse garage brewery. They brew some interesting things, but I don't make it there that much.
When you visit and have a car, I'd recommend to definitely go to Coast and Holy City.

Let me know if you'd like to be included. The "club" is for ABC folks too.
