Alum boil/gumbo pot question

got one as a gift; it's nice, came with a basket. But I know I cant sear in it and always need to have liquid in it to keep from burning through on a gas stove. It's got a thick bottom 
. But other than boiling, what do I use it for when I've already got the big cajun classic enameled iron pot?
