when do you guys add the shrimp? is it even possible to get them to come out right since you are not supposed to add any salt/seasoning to shimp until they cool? should i just boil them in plain water then let em soak with the crawfish?

You dont even have to boil them, just put them in with the dads during the soak and monitor how they're coming through the soaking process. (put in a separate sack if you want)

I would add them to the water when you turn the fire off and soak your crawfish and just start testing them after about 15 minutes.

I would do it in the same water either before or after the crawfish, as tey only take a few minutes

as for not adding seasoning until the are cool, not the way i do it, I get my water just a little more seasoned than for crawfish

well i say that because if you add any salt to your shrimp before they cool they will be a pain in the arse to peel

To each his own, I always season and salt water and my shrimp are very easy to peel, I feel it has more to do with overcooking the shrimp that makes them hard to peel, but if you have a system that works for you thats wonderful, but I disagree with your blanket statement

Bingo. If your shrimp are hard to peel you've overcooked them.

when i am boiling just shrimp i usually add my liquid... bring water to a hard boil add shrimp bring water back to hard boil and turn off. throw a bag of ice to stop the boil and add the seasoning... turn out great...
but im not boiling just shrimp... and i dont want them to turn rubbery and hard to peel (very picky)

i boil my crawfish like this... bring to hard boil add bugs bring back to hard boil, boil for 3 min turn off and soak ~25 min (if its a new crop of bugs ill cut back on the boiling time)
