Photoshop-blowing up a picture-question

I have a low resolution picture that I want to blow up and make a poster out of. But I know simply blowing it up will make it look blurry. Is there a way photoshop can nullify the effects of the blurr?
Sorry, admins, if this should be on the ot, but I figured I'd ask the experts.
By the way, here is the photo:

Kind of hard to get a large print with a file that size, but I enlarged it for you and used a couple of sharpening filters. See if this does anything.

how much larger are you wanting it?

Really, I'd love to make it as big as possible. but to get it made period, I'd be willing to settle on if it were xteen inches by xteen inches. Basically no smaller than 12 inch by 12 inch.
eta: thanks blueridge, that looks good. I'm making progress.

12 by 12 is huge for that picture. Here is a stab at it.
It won't let me post the image. For some reason during the upload to image shack it's distorting the color. I can email it if you'd like.

yea, lsulunatic @ hotmail.com
thanks, and I didn't realize that 12x12 was big for this picture. I emailed a designyourownposter website, and they basically said i was shite out of luck, so thanks for doing this.
eta: what's the problem with the original photo? was it taken with a bad camera or something?

I don't know if blowing it up will do the trick, but here you go..

I know it sounds weird... but run a "Glaussian Blur," with a setting of 1, then run sharpen. Should help.
But you are dealing with the pixels (or lack there of) that you have, so you are only going to get so much out of this original file.
If you need a great quality image... take the existing image and have it outputted to slid film (say 3 x 5), then have that slide scanned it at a übber high resolution on a professional drum canner, then you can print that image on any medium you want.
Might run you about $60, but it may be worth it... depending on how important this image is to you.

So for $60 there's away to make this into a large poster? Can you explain how I should go about this in layman's terms?

You need to have the original image (the sharpest one) scanned with a super-high resolution. 300x300 is pushing it for household scanners. (a print shop or photo lab may have a better one...)
There is an article that explains scanners:
How Stuff Works - Scanner Resolution
The problem with blowing up a photo (or digital picture) that doesn't have a high resolution (or pixels per inch) is that there isn't anything to "blow up" if there are only a few pixels already there....that's why it's blurry when it gets stretched.

I didn't get your email. Can you send me the email? I'm still clueless, and I welcome any additional help.
