My wife is really getting into photography, and I'm buying her a mini studio for Christmas. It comes with a green screen which I thought would be useful but I'm stumped on editing software. What direction should I go? Just photoshop or gimp or is there something else I should try that is more specific to her use in photography?

Never used Gimp, but if she is serious about it, maybe the Adobe Master Suite collection? If she is using it for a business it would lessen the blow from the price of it, but could be a tax write off. Every photo/video editing tool you could possibly need along with Photoshop in one expensive package. If she is just getting in to it, Photoshop should be all she needs for now.

Adobe Elements is a pretty good program for the type of work she'll be doing. Can also never go wrong with Photoshop as Krav stated. GIMP isn't nearly as powerful as PS.

It's not for a business. It's just at the hobby level right now. I was hoping there was an economical software program that wouldn't break the bank if this turns out to be something she doesn't continue in the future.

Where in NWLA are you? I could give you PhotoShop to play around with.

Shreveport

That'd be really cool of you. Is that like a burned copy or a previous version or what?

Adobe Lightroom. You can 6 get it for ~$150. You can get 5 for ~$40. Or you could do Creative Cloud Photography Bundle for $9.99/mth. It includes Lightroom and Photoshop as well as some mobile apps and services.

Everything I do is done with Photoshop Elements. I'm no
where near doing professional work for my job or otherwise
but have done some really nice looking editing with family
photos using PS Elements as well. If it's not for her job
and you want a good program for not a lot of $$, check out
Photoshop Elements.

I was looking at the ps elements. I was wondering can you use it with green screen editing or just basic editing stuff? I'm a total idiot when it comes to this stuff.

I'd suggest you get her a subscription to the Adobe Lightroom/Photoshop package. Lightroom is very powerful by itself.

You could also look into On1, they do a lot of the same stuff as Lightroom.

It's a great deal, keeps you updated as well. I don't use photoshop, only lightroom.

What do you like about Lightroom and what are the things you typically do with it?
