NCAA Levies Sanctions Against UH Warriors Coach McMackin

Honolulu (AP) - The NCAA was quick to levy sanctions against University of Hawaii's head football coach Greg McMackin following a derogatory slur aimed at the University of Notre Dame during a media briefing back in July. The "slur" also created a stir and outraged a number of civil rights groups that in turn demanded an apology from McMackin. The 2nd year Warriors coach was quick to follow his remark with an apology stating that "it was all in fun" and he was (unsuccessfully) trying to be "funny". The NCAA competition committee obviously found little solace in what appeared to be a genuine apology following the remark and wasted little time levying a remedial sanction that coach McMackin accepted in order to avoid further penalties against the University of Hawaii. A NCAA spokesman issued this remark in regards to the conditions: "We believed Greg McMackin needed to further reiterate his apology as well as display publicly his ability to be sensitive to those he may have offended with his remarks. We have asked him to alter his personal coaches uniform slightly for at least 6 games to illustrate his social tolerance and we have commissioned the uniform design from a local civil rights group: Family Association of Gay Social Respect Understanding Sensitivity (figs-R-US). Coach McMackin has accepted and we have laid this situation to rest." McMackin was asked following the Warriors first game whether his new coaching attire caused him any discomfort or embarrassment and he answered with: "...I thought those pole-smokin-arse-blasting-sack-slappin-sissys had thicker skin.....my bad...whatever..."
