Editing Gif Question

Did a search for gif editing and nothing came back...I may suck at searching because I was sure the topic would have been discussed...
1. I use GIMP 2.8
2. Fairly new to farking...can edit photos
What I want to learn:
1. How to edit a GIF....or more precisely I want to put my friends faces/heads into various GIFs
I have looked for instructional videos but what I keep finding are basically how to create GIFs from video...or create animated GIFs
The type help I would be very appreciative of:
1. Direction to any thread here that is a good explanation of how to edit GIFs
2. Direction to any other site/video that discusses this
3. Or Some instructions listed in this thread.
Thanks to anyone willing to offer assistance and a big thanks to all who contributed to the stickied thread here that I used while learning to edit photos.

try watching this and grab the scripts he links.
Gimp tutorial
To add a face to multiple layers and have it move, select the face and copy, then paste as new layer into the gif you have open. Place the layer with the face above the first layer in the gif you want it to appear in and hide all layers above that.
Before you edit it make a duplicate of your new layer with your friends face. Use the layers tab up top to edit size, direction, or colors in your layer with the face. Place the original layer with the face where you want it on the gif layer and then right click the face layer in the layers menu and merge it down into the gif layer.
Make another duplicate of your unedited face layer and place it above the next layer up in the gif, make that layer visible and repeat the steps above until you have added the face to all the layers in the gif. Then save and export as shown in the first link above.
You tube is the best place for tutorials.
This one shown how to make a text layer and then merge it down. LINK
If you have a gif with incomplete frames as in the example above, it won't work right to add a face to multiple layers. Virtualdub will take a Gif that doesn't have complete frames and save it as an avi file with complete frames. Virtualdub downloads Then you can use Iwisoft to save back as a Gif and all frames are complete.
