Whenever I try to create or edit text I keep getting the Gimp Message "Due to lack of any fonts, text functionality is not available." How do I fix this?

You need to download more fonts.. they can be found all over the internet for free. Try to figure out what font is being used on the file you opened as well.

I use Gimp, but have never ran across that message. Check you fonts folder under Gimp and see, if it's empty.
I lost my fonts before (Think I fricked something up downloading new fonts) and just reinstalled Gimp.

My thing is why is not even picking up the fonts that's already on the computer. IT doesn't just give the message if I try to edit the psd file that I tried to open, it even gives it if I try to create new text in a new file. That specific font isn't that important to me. I just want to work with the fonts that should already be there. I did uninstall it and I'm going to just try to reinstall it.

This is my first time trying to use it. I uninstalled and reinstalled directly from gimp.org and I don't get the no font message anymore. Now when I'm have trouble editing the text in the image. No matter what I do it still shows the original text. I've changed it both by double clicking and right clicking the the text in the layers window and it still shows the original text on the image even though it has been change in the layers window.

Not sure I follow what you got.
Are you trying to change text on a previous saved image?
Or
Are you trying to edit the text you just entered?
You're not going to be able to change text on a previous saved image without doing to some cover up work.

Starting to figure this out now.

Yep, the text is part of the picture once it's saved.
You can either find a copy of the original photo and start from scratch or do some touch up work to cover the text in the one you have.
