Swweeeettt. For me it's most things that people don't notice. Like the fading brush work on the bricks. Oh and the helmet rocks.

I know you were asking BigEasy - but depending on the texture of the object, there's a couple ways I use.
On this picture:
I selected the "backdrop" and copied 2 layers. On the underneath layer I desaturated it (not on the slider - just straight desaturate). On the top copy, I filled it in with solid royal blue. Then I changed the Blending Mode to Overlay (Color Mode works as well if you want it even brighter) to get this:
