So I’m pretty new to fantasy baseball, and I’m trying to figure out the best way to put together my pitching for a 12 man H2H league.
Are starting pitchers better than relievers? Or Is there a certain number of both I should have?
My pitching roster...
Chris Sale
Zach Greinke
David Robertson
Robbie Ray
Andrew Heaney(putting on IL)
Will Smith
Joey Lucchesi
Zach Godley
Jon Lester( picked up off waivers lol)

So I know not the most glamorous staff and my top 2 guys got ROCKED in their starts, and I maybe put too many picks into my batting.
-Available pitchers notable -
Jose Alvarado
Jordan Hicks
Chris Paddack
Sonny Gray
Adam Ottavino

So can someone educate me on how to make this pitching roster better?

post your scoring, and your roster size and you'll get some better answers

At first glance Alvarado, Hicks, Paddack and Ottavino are all guys better than the ones on the bottom of your roster there.

Definitely would add Alvarado and Hicks (though he likely could lose closer role when Martinez healthy)

I agree on paddock kid is a stud

Would y’all recommend like 5 starters and 4 relievers? Or what do y’all do?
I added Paddack and Alvarado.
Dropped Godley and moved heaney to IL

In my league we have 4 SP 2 rp and 2 p slots. Keep in mind it's a catagories- so svs, sv ops whip and era are just as big and can be the difference makers

Do relievers give a better chance at getting points regularly rather than once a week? Or is that a higher chance of getting negative points?

Depends on your scoring and the quality of relievers and also matchups. For example Josh hader vs a weaker lineup offers more upside than say Jose leclerc vs say the Astros lineup. Ive sat all my pitchers both starting and relieving because I already had strikeouts era and whip won and didn't want to risk negative stats messing that up

do you set a roster daily?

if so you want 4-5 relivers in at all time especially if they are quality

shuffle your SPs in as they are scheduled to start

post your scoring, cause you say standard then talmbout getting negative points

With saves being worth 5, I'd get Hicks for now and also aggressively pursue any other closers that become available

Despite the name, I'd keep my eye on Lester, declining stuff whose often allowed a lot of baserunners. He should eat some innings though

Okay added Alvarado and Hicks.
Cleaned up rest of rotation.
Added:
Hicks
Urias
Paddack
Alcantara
Zimmerman
Traded For:
Buehler
Happ
Made some trades to clear out some others.
Got some great points out of Paddack, Alvarado and Zimmerman.
Looking to trade for some more relievers or closers though so I can get more consistent points.
The marlins young rotation could be great waiver pick ups as well.

im not a fan of points leagues but if you want to compete you'll need to keep the last 2-3 slots of your pitching staff flexible. every weekend you need to be looking at next weeks 2 start pitchers who are available and see who is worthy to stream in. its all ab having the most starts.

also SPARPS are more valuable in this format. these are starting pitchers as relief pitchers. IE starters who have RP eligibility. guys like Glasnow and Strahm get a bump in this format.

you dont need to necessarily chase saves in this format... esp. if u have 2 of the better SPARPS. listen to CBS baseball podcast as they have a lot of points league advice

Hey I’m just going by what it says in my app lol like I said I’m new, and for sure. I wasn’t too worried with Zimmerman facing the Yanks because they are COLD.
