Our dynasty league is dropping from 14 teams to 12 this season, so all players on the 2 dropped teams will be included in the rookie draft in a couple of weeks.

Due to this, we are adding an extra round to our normal 4-round draft to account for the available vets. I pick 6th in each round but don't have a 2nd rounder due to a trade last year.

I have Mahomes and Cousins at QB so I'm OK there.
I have Tyreek, Jefferson, D-Hop (suspended 6 games) and DeAndre Carter (pts for return yds) at WR.
I am fairly weak at RB. I took Sermon and Michael Carter last year to hopefully improve things, but that isn't working. Melvin Gordon is my best RB.
My TEs include Goedert, Engram and Gronk (hoping he returns).

With that in mind, which of the following available vets from the contracted teams would you consider drafting at 1.06? I've included the bigger names even though not all are worth a 1st rounder. I've also got to slot them throughout the rookie rankings.

Mac Jones
Trey Lance
Tua
Dak
Javonte Williams
Dalvin Cook
Zeke
Fournette
Jamaal Williams
DJ Moore
Ertz
Freiermuth
Dawson Knox
Patriots D*
Broncos D*
Cowboys D*
Raiders D*

Pretty sure Breece Hall, Kenneth Walker and Javonte will go quickly. If Mac Jones or Dak (or rookie WR) can get picked before me, I'd be able to get Dalvin Cook or Zeke...but I wouldn't be happy about it.

*I only included the defenses on the list above because they are never available. I have the Bills and Cardinals defenses and would only pick up one of the above if they last until the 4th, which they won't.

I would try to move into the top 3 if I were you. If not maybe take the best rookie wr(I would say drake London or garret wilson).

I think this is my most likely scenario...and I do need to grab someone to replace D-Hop or at least bump him down my roster.

I inherited the team right before last year's draft so I haven't even had them a year yet. Tempted to tank this year to get a top rookie RB next year.

Just try and acquire talent not fill holes. If you reach for a position you can get burned.

Your Draft board should look like:

Javonte
Dalvin
Breece Hall
DJ Moore
Walker/Jameson/Wilson/London/Burks

I would not draft Zeke at 1.06 just because you “need an RB”

Btw including a dispersal draft with a rookie draft is dumb. You have people who traded for and away rookie draft picks who presumably didn’t know vets would be in the draft. My advice would be to Make them separate drafts.

Agreed.

After looking at way-too-early mock drafts for 2022, I saw that there would be less than usual skill positions in the top couple of rounds...so I traded my 2nd last year and my 2nd this year in order to move back into round 1 (for Michael Carter). I wouldn't have made the trade if I knew the vets would be available.

At this point, I'm hoping a bunch of vets (and defenses) are taken between 1.07 and 3.06 to push rookies down to me.

Just because I know everyone was anxiously waiting...below are the results of the rookie + contraction draft.

Note - I didn't have a 2nd round pick due to a trade I made last year. I tried to trade down from 1.06 to later in the 1st and pick up a 2nd, but was never able to come to an agreement on comp.

I did make a trade during the draft. I traded DHop for Josh Jacobs...I already have Jefferson and Tyreek at WR and had been looking at getting rid of DHop for a while. Jacobs is now my RB1.
