SI.com's Jon Heyman reports that Kendry Morales (leg) is "very unlikely" to be ready by Opening Day
quote:
Angels manager Mike Scioscia had expressed optimism that his slugger would be able to answer the bell in the opener, but evidently that's not likely to happen. Perhaps not coincidentally, ESPN's Buster Olney has reported that the Halos are on the lookout for a left-handed bat. The Rangers' Chris Davis would make some sense, as he could fill in at first until Morales is ready and then move to third or DH. It remains to be seen who exactly the Angels are interested in, though, and whether or not the Rangers might be willing to deal within the division.

There's no reason why that injury should take that long to heal. Something is up.

The injury was weird to begin. He just skip-jumped onto home plate. and now this long to heal. I agree something is up with ole Kendry.

Morales' condition improving
Kendry Morales, 1B ANA
News: Angels 1B Kendry Morales continues to make steady progress from the broken ankle he sustained last season. The Los Angeles Times reports that he had the harness on his left ankle loosened so that he could run on nearly all of his body weight. "He's virtually running full speed on the treadmill," manager Mike Scioscia said. "There's still a process that has to take place until he's ready to take it over to the field. But we're getting closer to that. He's going hard. If you watch him on the treadmill, he's getting after it." Morales has also been participating in light fielding drills.
Analysis: It is still unclear when Morales will be ready to appear in a game, but on his current schedule, he should be ready for opening day. He will likely begin the season as a designated hitter, but at least that will keep him in the lineup. Continue to draft Morales within the first six or seven rounds in standard mixed league formats.
Suck it Jon Heyman

Just heard that the only reason the Twins may trade Liriano is because they are worried about him getting injured

Scioscia disputes report on Kendry Morales Angels manager Mike Scioscia has disputed a report from SI.com's Jon Heyman that Kendry Morales (leg) is "very unlikely" to be ready for Opening Day.
Scioscia thinks his first baseman still has time to make the necessary progress, which is in line with what the manager said a little over a week ago. Morales has been battling the flu lately that has stalled his recovery, but the leg is obviously the major concern. We'll have a clearer picture of his status as we get closer to Opening Day.
